The 2016 Olympic city has been announced & we are one step closer to another Games – it is a reminder of just how great the human body can be. It would have been awesome to have the Games here in Chicago just for the sheer delight of seeing Olympic athletes ‘in the flesh’ -  but actually, those video montages they put together to show you the highlights of a specific athlete & heartbreak of another could almost be more moving than seeing it live.

Live or on TV, watching a human live up to every ounce of their ability, is such a great reminder of just how much more each of us can put out for our efforts. I believe that many people build  a barrier up in their mind that is so huge, so towering, that they are paralyze themselves by it & cannot figure out how to climb over it when really, the decision to work out, get healthy, live optimally is a pretty simple one.

It boils down to this – Do the best you can, every single time.

That wall that people build in their mind was built by that individual, so that means, taking down that wall, brick by brick, actually is a fairly easy task if one just puts themself to it. The 99.9% of the population that will never train for an Olympics has something far greater to be out there living up to every ounce of their ability for – the rest of their life! Why would anyone put a wall up between them and a life that is high-quality, high-value & highly successful?

As I’ve written before, you can be succesful in other parts of your life, but you will never be “optimally you” if you are not in good care of your health, fitness & wellness.

Olympic athletes spend lots of time practicing positive mental imagery- picturing themself crossing the finish line with the best time, defeating their opponent with ease, and seeing their endeavor as the easiest thing they have to do. You can and should do the same! Practice positive mental imagery of how you’re going to look as you accomplish your wellness goals. Picture yourself getting your workout in daily & picture yourself going through life with ease as you grocery shop, cook real food, plan ahead for snacks, carve time out for lessons or personal training, and anything else that is going to fit into your OPTIMAL life!

You have a choice about how you’re going to lead your life. The vast majority of us will never train to be an Olympic caliber athlete, but we should train for our lives like it’s the Olympics, because as those athletes view the Olympics as the ultimate event, your LIFE is the ultimate event & it’s worth training for.
